Impressions from the Too Hot To Handle-Gala in Krefeld at 26.05.2002

At Sunday, 26th May 2002 the well known event label 2H2H started in Krefeld/Germany. Promoter Klaus Waschkewitz (who is The Pionier for the official K-1 in Germany), and the 2H2H-Team proofed here once again that they have world-class in case of fight-promotions. The entire arrangement was going off exactly and the Glockenspitzhalle in Krefeld was temporary like a pandemonium as the spectators were responding from the first fight on and during some fights they were proverbial standing on the stands! And yet the team of Klaus had more than bad luck at this fight evening. The fighters of Masters-Gym's somehow didn't sort to their usual power or were wounded and had to stop the fight. Nevertheless all fighters showed big efforts against without exception very strong opponents from Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Hungary, Finnland, Brazilia, Russia and Croatia.

International Encounters in Mixfight and Thaiboxing

Altogether 9 fight encounters in thaiboxing and mixfight have been on the program. The absolute highlights were the mixfight encounter between Alistair Overeem (NL) and Vesa Vuori (Fin), as well as the thaiboxing fight Dimitri Alexudis (G) v.s. Jerell Venetiaan (NL). In the main mixfight contest Alistair Overeem was brilliant against the Finn by his aggressive fight attitude. In the run-up the fight several times was turning to the ground after punch and kick attacks from both sides: The Finn Vesa Vuori nevertheless got himself out of this desperate position and got back on his feet again.

Though Alistair Overeem didn't gave a chance to the Finn to develop and pursued immediately with extreme forward impulse so that the fight turned to floorwork again. Then Alistair reached the deciding mount position and here he defeated the Finn by punches to head, the Finn having no other possibility as to punt after ca. 5-6 hits.

The fight Dimitri Alexudis v.s. Jerell Venetiaan was ending with TKO in favour of Jerell Venetiaan in the 3rd round. Dimi couldn't get to his usual power and here he neglected some of his real strength in the field of punching. The Dutch Jerell Venetiaan was increasingly putting pressure with low-kicks as well as strong box combinations on the master fighter. Though the good guard from Dimi could prevent him over and above that from numerous impacts by dangerous and exactly timed high-roundhouse-kicks from Jerell. After a series of hart hits the fight was ending in 3rd round. Winner by TKO Jerell Venetiaan / Netherlands.

Hight Carat Fight Encounters

In the further fighting courses there was the thaiboxing fight (Heavyweight Europe title IKBO) between Ismet Boran (Masters-Gym) and Gordan Jukic from Croatia. Gordan was dominating the fight and put Ismet out of action already in 1st round by a heavy KO through a perfect uppercut. -- Certainly the absolute topping cream of this gala were the fights between Kamal El Amrani (Masters-Gym) v.s. Rafi (Sitan-Gym) from Spain (thaiboxing) as well as the mixfight encounters of Red Devil and Golden Glory fighters Amran Gamberjan v.s. Murat Chunkayev from Russia.

In thaiboxing fight El Amrani v.s. Rafi we saw a fight which was delivering a feast for the eyes to the crowd and as well to the experts regarding technique and hardness . Amrani was showing a good teamwork with his coach Klaus Waschkewitz, who gave exact instructions from the corner of the ring, which Kamal El Amrani could convert into hard and accurate technique in the first round and which was inundating the Spaniard with numerous low kicks and punches. On the other hand the Spaniard was showing from the 2nd round on his big fighting spirit and his qualities of a recipient. Without getting impressed too much Rafi was fighting with all his skills and was placing high-roundhouse-kicks on massive scale.

"Showtime" was announced in the 3rd round which does not mean that it was not fought seriously but furthermore that Kamal in this round was presenting his skills of kicking and was firing rounds of high- back- and roundhouse heel kicks. In this connection Rafi could as well present something and countered with a back-spinning roundhouse kick towards the head of Kamal. The audience was wild! However coach Klaus Waschkewitz didn't want to like this admittedly esthetic playing of his charge at all and he had hardly shouted his objections into the circle when Kamal was already lying on the ground of the circle, perfectly knocked down by a straight right, but he could continue the fight again. Unfortunately Kamal had to stop this well-balanced and nice fight in the 4th round because of an injury of his hand. Winner: Rafi from Spain.

Further treat of this fight spectacle was as already mentioned the mixfight encounter of the Russians Amran Gamberjan v.s. Murat Chunkayev (Red Devil/Golden Glory). This fight was a mixture of dynamic and hardness. Both fighters from Russia went at it hammer and tongs and scored hard hits in standup-fight and showed professional ground fight. Here the original fighting style of Arman Gamberjan appeared: Wrestling with Greco-Roman style. In the end Arman was winning over Murat Chunkayev by submission (strangle technique) after a bitter ground-fight with many punches to head and body.

A further mixfight between Hans Jürgen Matt v.s Gulyas Zsolt, a freefight-champ from Hungary, was ending by punches to head from the mount position for Hans Jürgen Matt. Kazeka Muniz (Gracie Barra) from Brazil could achieve a technical perfect victory by submission (onside arm stretch lever ) over Mario Stapel from Germany.

In the field of thaiboxing were fighting furthermore Özkan Köse (Masters-Gym) v.s. Marco Stünkel (Thaiholics). This fight was ending with a TKO in the second round in favor of Marco Stünkel. As well there was an encounter between Peter Plowy (Masters-Gym) v.s. Dirk Tiehleke (Margdeburg). This fight probably was the one with the biggest engagement of the crowd. The fans of Peter Plowy who were appeared numerously tried to help the masters-fighter to victory by most intense support. Though Dirk Tiehleke was winning here by points.
