Victory for Peter Angerer (left side) / UFC-Fighter Shonie Carter

At Saturday, 13th of April 2002 the 1. HEAT Fight Night "FISTS OF FURY" was promoted by Shidokan Germany and Samurai Project Germany. This event presented a really high-carat and international fight event to about 900 spectators and international media like for example television stations AFN (USA), RTL and RTF1. Names like Shonie "Mr. International" Carter, veteran of the real ULTIMATE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS, the Japanese Champion in Judo Kenji Mizuno, world champion of Thai boxing and champion of Samurai Grand Prix in Japan Kenichi Sato, the reigning champion of Pankration in Asia and winner of UGC 2 Aidar Makhmetov from Kasachstan, as the titleholder in Shido and ADCC-veteran Peter "Ehrgeiz" Angerer from Germany, provided extremely high classic matches in the main fights.

The main attractions were of course the matches between Shonie Carter (USA) (USA), who was fighting against Armin Eslami from Cologne, as well as the title match between Peter Angerer and Kenichi Sato from Japan. During the fight Carter v.s. Eslami, Shonie was dominant over the whole fighting course and he was determining about the fighting course. The initial standup fight with numerous low kicks was followed by series of punch and push attacks on the ground.

But not to overlook the following facts: Armin did a good fight, didn’t got impressed to much by the big UFC star, kept his line and followed strictly the instructions from his ring corner. By this way Shonie Carter could not secure early victory in the fight and had to stand the whole fighting time of 3 x 5 minutes and was winning with 3:0 points by decision of judge.

Grappling-Magazin / USA Evaluation of fight in run-up to the match Angerer v.s. Sato:

…”Angerer, however, a highly skilled and elusive striker with wonderful throws and an excellent ground game (I saw him work out with Shonie Carter and he can grapple) seemed to have all the needed tools to give Sato fits.” …”I believe Angerer has all the tools needed to compete in a high-level MMA show such as the UFC, and hope that he some day has the chance to compete. Most MMA fighters today do not posses the kicking and striking skills. Angerer does, combined with his solid ground game. The rematch of this fight, later this year, should be a donnybrook.”
(Editor-in-Chief' Todd Hester vom "Grappling Magazin" / Chicago April 2002)

This evaluation through the American Grappling Magazin is exactly the impression which titleholder Peter Angerer was conveying to the international press as well as to the spectators at the HEAT-Gala in Mössingen: Peter's way of fighting is a mixture of fighting spirit and explosive firmness under perfect technical aesthetics which he maintains even in most desperate straits! Peter showed the full program, was kicking and punching in standup fight with all his skills: Back kicks, turn kicks by heels and rabbit punches were hitting out many times at Kenichi Sato and made a distance fight to a dangerous undertaking for him.

An unusual often use of high kicks, which are to be used in a MMA-Fight normally only against a very inferior opponent. But it was not the case in this fight as Sato was always powering forwards. Kenichi Sato therefore was winning repeatedly the mount position on the ground of which Peter got himself out only with big efforts. Victory Peter Angerer with 2:1 by decision of points.

Here we saw a top-world class fight and we only can side with the opinion of Editor-in-Chief Todd Hester of "Grappling Magazin" / Chicago, who expressed the hope that Peter Angerer some day has the chance to present his skills in a high-level MMA show such as the UFC!

Peter Angerer to the course of this event

OSU, first of all and in behalf of Shidokan Germany and Samurai Project Germany I will thank all fans, spectators, the media and of course Bodo from Outsider Club for the fantastic support the last weekend at the "Fists of Fury"- Gala. We know that the fans are the keys for success of an arrangement and what about the best fights without a good public. I guess that last weekend everything has fit. It is very pleasant that Mixed Fighting gets apparently established anyway as sport in Germany and the fact that as well superstars from Japan and USA have found at last the way to Germany once, is definitely a good sign that Germany, too, will be found on the fight card at big overseas events in future. OSU,

Peter "Yamatodamashii" Angerer, SHIDO Champion
